PROJECT REVEAL // MEDITERRANEAN MODERN BATH

We’ve been keeping these photos to ourselves for a little while now but the time has finally come to share our latest bathroom reno project… inspired by the warmth + subtlety of the Mediterranean and combined with our signature Prairie style, this pretty bathroom checks all the boxes for our clients who came to us looking to completely transform their {very} small ensuite + outdated main floor bathroom. Our clients had dreams of turning the two bathrooms into one that would incorporate their entire wishlist: a soaking tub, a large walk-in shower, natural light, a pretty vanity, and some extra storage.
Personally, I LOVE to work on bathrooms - these spaces are such a part of our daily routines and with some clever planning and the right materials, they can be a space that truly enriches our everyday lives.

We were brought onto this project in the very beginning stages of the planning + always appreciate the opportunity to have a hand in influencing the layout of the space.
Our Six Step Design Process starts with an in-depth discovery into our clients goals, needs, and wants for their renovation, as well as other important information such as budgets, timelines, + trades. We were able to work with the layout of these two combined spaces and present our clients with three very distinct layout options, based on all the information we had them provide at the outset.
In the end, we drew a fourth layout combining all three initial layouts because of the location of a plumbing stack that was hidden in the wall. When renovating, it’s not a matter of if something unexpected pops up - it’s usually a matter of when. That’s part of the role of a designer: to help clients navigate those unexpected pivots or alterations that need to made mid-project.
By incorporating the bathtub into the shower space and creating an enclosed ‘wet room’, we were still able to achieve everything on our clients’ wish list.
Once we’ve gathered information, developed the layout of the space, and created an aesthetic concept, we look to develop the materials to be used in the project. Since this couple came to us with a very open mind, there was lots of room for us to explore materials + dive into our creativity. With the intention of creating a space that felt like an everyday escape, we were able to make material selections that feel earthy + add in design details that keep the space feeling fresh + refined yet earthy + warm.
SHOP THIS PROJECT
We always look to function first and foremost when selecting materials and part of our role as a design team is to help guide our clients in making experienced + informed decisions that improve the day-to-day functionality of the space. In this bathroom, underneath all the pretty finishes, is a waterproofed shower that is thermally insulated and dimensionally stable using specialty waterproofing substrate. We also added a niche and a small bench in the shower to improve function and ease-of-use.
As you move towards the shower, the soaking tub is only visible as you enter the space. We faced the front of the bath with a Mediterranean-inspired concrete tile that adds colour + pattern to the otherwise neutral space and the champagne bronze bath faucet adds warmth.
The custom-made walnut vanity camouflages six drawers + two doors with some clever spacing of the vertical stiles of the cabinet. The extra-chunky countertop edge and the scalloped-edge backsplash are details that contribute to a luxe feel.
We incorporated wall mount faucets because they’re easy to clean and keep the countertop free of pools of water.
And now for the fun part…the ‘before’ photos. I just love a good ‘before-and-after’.
Such a transformation! And more than that, a functional space that will serve our clients well for years to come!
